Daewangam Park, January 11

Bird News from Johan Kok

I went for a brief lunchtime walk at Daewangam Park near Ilsan beach.  I decided to stay away from the weekend crowds and follow a small gully to a spot where I could look out over the ocean.  It proved a great idea as I came across a loosely mixed flock of birds that included Eurasian Magpie, Vinous-throated Parrotbill, Eastern Great Tit, Brambling, Yellow-throated Bunting, Grey-capped Greenfinch, Brown-eared Bulbul, Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker and also a Siberian Accentor, which put a big smile on my face.  I eventually made it to the ocean where I saw a couple of Black-tailed Gulls and a flock of about 20 Great Crested Grebe resting in a bay before I had to rush back to work.
